THIS WEEK The University of Utah Cross Country team will start the season in Logan, Utah at the Utah State Open on Friday, Aug. 31. The 5k race will begin at 2:40 at the America West Heritage Center.
UTE NOTES The Utes return seven runners from the 2006 squad, and gain three freshmen. Headlining the returnees are Alyssa Abbott, Chelsea DiGrazia, Rebecca Mackelprang, and Stephanie Skoreyko. The freshmen consist of Alexis Davis, Erin Fuller, and Lauren Lewis.
Utah's first two races are in-state. This week's race is in Logan, Utah, while next week's race is in Provo. In all, three races are in the Beehive State. The NCAA Mountain Regional on Nov. 10 is in Ogden.
The 2007 roster doesn't have a single senior on it. Four of the runners are juniors (Anderson, DiGrazia, Endersen, and Ern), three are sophomores (Abbott, Mackelprang, and Skoreyko), and three are freshmen (Davis, Fuller, and Lewis). Seven of the 10 runners have collegiate running experience.

KEPLER'S QUOTES "I'm very optimistic about this season," Said head coach Kyle Kepler. "We're excited to get started and to begin competition again. This week we will focus on establishing a base and observe what areas still need improvement."
Kepler ends with, "You never know what to expect from other teams this early in the season, but we're going to run our race and continue to move forward with the program."
NEXT WEEK The Utes will be in Provo, Utah for the BYU Autumn Classic held on Sat., Sept. 8.
