THIS WEEK The University of Utah Cross Country has the week off, but they will train and fine-tune for their next meet on Sept. 29.
LAST WEEK The University of Utah Cross Country team finished fourth of 13 teams at the Montana State Invitational last Saturday. The Utes fourth-place finish was led by freshman Lauren Lewis who finished sixth in clocking the three-mile course in 17:28.00.
In all the Utes scored a total of 83 points with the top-five runners within 30 seconds of each other. Trailing Lewis in the race were: Rebecca Mackelprang in 17th (17:45); Kellie Anderson in 19th (17:47); Alyssa Abbott in 21st (17:53); and Janett Ern in 24th (17:58).
Also racing for the Utes were Stephanie Skoreyko (43rd, 18:31), Lauren Endersen (44th in 18:32), and Alexis Davis (56th, 19:15).
UTE NOTES The Utes will use this week as a chance to reset mentally and focus on getting ready for their first big meet of the season.
The Stanford Invite is a 6k race. It's the first 6k race of the year. The rest of the races this season will be 6k runs.
Freshman Lauren Lewis owns the MWC's 3-mile time. Her 17:28 effort at the Montana State invite is tops in the league.
Utah has only two meets left before the MWC Championships on Oct. 27. It will be held at San Diego State this year.
KEPLER'S QUOTES "This week, were looking forward to having a week off," says head coach Kyle Kepler. "We need to maintain our aggressive attitude throughout the week and improve our one-through-five runners."
Kepler ends with, "The athletes have come together as a team. Every person knows their role on the team and knows if they fall they have someone there to pick them back up."
NEXT WEEK The Utes will compete at the Stanford Invitational on Sept. 29, in Palo Alto, Calif.
