COLORADO SPRINGS, Colo. - Senior Luke Nevill has been named the Mountain West Conference Men's Basketball Player of the Week for the second time this season, the league office announced Monday.
A 7-foot-2 center from Perth Australia, Nevill recorded back-to-back double-doubles last week as Utah split a pair of road games, including a 60-52 victory at UC Irvine on Saturday. In that win, Nevill scored 11 points (4-of-8 shooting) and grabbed 10 rebounds while tying his career-high with four blocks. He also collected three assists and one steal vs. the Anteaters.
Earlier in the week against Utah State, Nevill had game-highs in points (25) and rebounds (11), while also tallying two assists and one block. He shot 10-for-16 from the floor, while converting 5-of-6 from the charity stripe. Utah lost that contest on a buzzer-beater, 66-64.
On the week, Nevill averaged 18.0 points, 10.5 rebounds, 2.5 blocks and 2.5 assists per game while shooting 58.3 percent (14-for-24) from the floor and 80.0 percent (8-for-10) from the charity stripe.
Nevill has recorded a double-double in six of Utah's 12 games this season, bringing his career total to 24. He has scored in double figures in all 12 of the Utes' games this year.
Nevill becomes the first repeat honoree of the season.
