SALT LAKE CITY - The University of Utah women's tennis team will be diving into conference play this weekend as they take on San Diego State and UNLV. The matches are tentatively scheduled to be played outdoors at BYU's outdoor tennis facility. The Utes are scheduled to play at 2:00 p.m. on Friday and Saturday.
THE UTES
The Utes are currently ranked No. 56 in the nation with a winning 9-5 season record. Last week Utah faced No. 34 South Carolina at home. The two teams depended on their No. 5s to pull through at the end since they were tied 3-3. Leigh Walsh and Megan McGavock from the Gamecocks played with everything they had, but McGavock had the last call to pull out a 0-6, 6-4, 7-5 win.
Elizabeth Ferris is currently ranked No. 43 in the nation in singles play and No. 41 in doubles play with partner Emily Kwok.
SDSU AZTEC
San Diego State is not currently ranked by the ITA. The Aztecs are currently 7-7 for the season and 0-0 in conference play. Last week, the team pulled out a 6-1 win over Harvard.
Junior Holly Bagshaw (15-10) leads the Aztecs in singles play, while Eliska Krausova and Sissie Nielsen take on the No. 1 spot in doubles play.
UNLV REBELS
The Rebels have earned a No. 62 ranking by the ITA with an 8-6 winning record. UNLV will play their first conference matches this weekend as well.
In last week's contest, the Rebels fell 4-3 to No. 18 Pepperdine.
Elena Gantcheva leads the Rebels on the court in singles play. Gantcheva has a 20-9 singles record and is 15-8 in doubles play. The Rebel recently earned a No. 31 national ranking by the ITA.
UNLV's Kristina Nedeltcheva is also ranked at No. 120 by the ITA with a 12-7 singles record.
