SALT LAKE CITY - The Utah track and field team participated in several meets on Friday, April 25, highlighted with the 4x400 team in the Drake Relays.
The team of Ashley Patterson, Chelsey Kaplar, Whitney Wellington and Chelsea Shapard finished 15th in the 4x400 with a time of 3:49.12.
"Unfortunately Ashley and Whitney are batting illnesses, and they just didn't have that extra juice today," head coach Kyle Kepler said. "Chelsey Kaplar ran great, she is getting more consistent and I am happy with her performance. Chelsea Shapard was also solid. It was a cold, windy afternoon, which was difficult, and we put in a solid effort."
At the Robinson Invitational, hosted by BYU, Sarah Dowland had two top-10 finishes, placing seventh in the shot (40'1.25") and ninth in the javelin (118'02").
Chasity Toilolo led the Utes with a top-five finish in the shot put. She threw a mark of 41'10.75". Wanda Dalton and Josefin Berg finished 11th and 12th, respectively, in the shot. Dalton threw for 33'10.75" while Berg tossed for a mark of 33'3".
Aimee Nay was third in the pole vault open, clearing 10'6". Liza Whitehead finished 8th in the 100-meter dash preliminaries. She qualifies for the finals, held on Saturday. Kellie Anderson recorded an eighth-place mark in the 5,000 meters, crossing the line in 18:35.57. Jessica Suddaby matched her personal best with an 11th-place finish in the 400-meter hurdles.
At the Simpson Twilight, Haley McAllister had a jump of 18'8.5".
"Haley was jumping with the wind," Kepler said. "We were going to also participate in some races, but we didn't run because of the cold."
The Utes continue at the Drake Relays and Robinson Invitational on Saturday, April 25.
