RENO, NEV. - The University of Utah cross country team competed at the WAC Preview Invitational on Saturday hosted by the University of Nevada. The Utes finished in third place in the 5-kilometer run, led by freshman Amanda Mergaert.
Mergaert crossed the line in third-place overall with a time of 20:17 behind Kristina Holtz of Sacramento State (first, 20:05) and Jordan Burke of Nevada (second, 20:05). Freshman Jenny McCune was the next Ute to finish the course with a time of 20:42 for ninth-place overall.
Senior Sydney Osmun led the next group of Utes across the finish line, finishing in 21:17 for 15th place overall. Junior Alexis Davis was hot on her heels, finishing 16th with a time of 21:19. Rounding out the top five finishers for Utah was freshman Chantel Hunt. She finished the course in 21:25 for 17th place overall.
Lucy Yates ran her first collegiate cross country meet on Saturday after red-shirting last season. She ran the 5-kilometer race in 21:32 for 19th place overall. Freshman Megan Combe finished 20th overall and a time of 21:34.
Freshman Kacee Hildebrandt was the last Utah finisher with a time of 22:31 and 24th place overall.
