PALM SPRINGS, Calif. - The University of Utah men's golf team wrapped up the final 18 holes of the second annual Wyoming Desert Intercollegiate. The Utes ended the tournament in sixth place with a final mark of 887 (301, 291, 295), 23-over-par.
Junior Derek Adams continued to lead Utah after shooting two rounds of 71 and a final round of 72 for a total score of 214, two-under-par. Adams finished in fourth-place, six strokes behind the leader.
Junior Mike Branca (76, 73, 74) and freshman Camden Nicholson (77, 73, 73) tied for 26th place with final scores of 223, seven-over-par.
At 12-over-par junior Chase Hite tied for 53rd place with a score of 228 (78, 74, 76). Sophomore Kaleb Mahanes rounded out the Utes competing in the team score. Mahanes shot a total of 231 (77, 76, 78), 15-over-par.
Sophomore Joe Webber and junior Jeff Kitches competed in the tournament as individuals. Webber finished in a tie for 18th-place with a mark of 221 (77, 67, 77), five-over-par. Kitches fell one stroke behind Webber adding a third round of 75 to a first and second round combined total of 147 to end the day tied for 23rd-place, six-over-par.
Santa Clara University captured the team title with a score of 872 (289, 283, 300), eight-over-par. Gabe Maier of Wyoming won the individual title with a score of 208 (70, 68, 70), eight-under-par.
Up next the Utes will travel to St. George, Utah for the Utah Collegiate Shootout on Oct. 17.
