Individual Event Competition Order
LINCOLN, Neb.--Kristina Baskett hopes to close her Ute career the way she began--as an NCAA champion. Baskett, who won the NCAA bar title in 2006 as a freshman, will compete for individual titles on vault, bars and beam tonight in the 2009 NCAA Event Championships. Also representing the Utes will be Daria Bijak on the floor. This marks Bijak's second appearance in event finals: She placed eighth on bars as a freshman in 2007.

Baskett, a 12-time All-American who will graduate as one of the most accomplished gymnasts in Utah history, has a case full of hardware to show for her career. In addition to helping Utah to three runner-up finishes and one third-place showing, Baskett already has an individual gold medal (bars, 2006), two silvers (vault 2008, all-around 2009) and a bronze (2008 all-around).
Baskett qualified for event finals on Thursday by tying for first on bars and beam with a 9.90, and tying for second on vault with a 9.95. Bijak won the floor exercise on Thursday, scoring a 9.90.
Baskett and Bijak are among four Utes to earn All-America honors at this championship. Baskett picked up five awards, including first team honors in the all-around and on vault, bars and beam. She was a second-team All-American on the floor. She placed second in the all-around on Thursday--winning the evening session and finishing second overall behind the afternoon winner (Courtney Kupets of Georgia). A Ute has now won the all-around in its session four straight years, only to finish second overall (Ashley Postell was a three-time all-around runner-up in 2006, 2007 and 2008).

Bijak, a 2009 first-team All-American on the floor, won second-team honors in the all-around and on bars and vault for a total of four awards. The junior has accumulated seven All-America awards in her career.
Senior Nina Kim and junior Jamie Deetscreek both became first-time All-Americans at the 2009 Championships. Kin made the second team in the all-around and on the vault, while Deetscreek picked up second-team honors on the bars. Utah received a total of 12 All-America citations.
