SALT LAKE CITY - The University of Utah men's golf team heads south for the 2009 PING Cougar Classic hosted by Brigham Young University, April 24-25. The tournament will take place at the Riverside Country Club featuring 36 holes on Friday and the last 18 holes on Saturday with both tee times at 8:00 a.m. MT.
The field will consist of 15 teams: Air Force, Boise State, Brigham Young, BYU-Hawaii, Colorado State, Hawaii, Idaho, New Mexico State, Sacramento State, Southern Utah, Utah, Utah State, Utah Valley, Weber State and Wyoming.
Last year at the Classic, the Utes finished in 7th-place out of 14 teams with a score of 871 (287, 292, 292), at seven-over-par. Chance Cota is the only player from last years roster to compete in the tournament this year. Last year, Cota finished the tournament tied for 22nd-place, at one-over-par, with a score of 217 (71, 73, 73).
The 2008 PING Cougar Classic Champion was New Mexico State with a score of 847 (277, 282, 288), at 17-under-par.
In the Utes last action at the Cowboy Classic the team finished in 17th-place with a score of 880, at 40-over-par. Senior Cota lead the team with a 19th-place finish at two-over-par with a score of 212 (74, 71, 67).
The Cougar Classic concludes the Utes' regular season. They will head to Tucson, Ariz. April 30 for the Mountain West Conference Championships.
