The No. 2 ranked Utah gymnastics team will open postseason play tonight in Seattle minus the services of all-around senior Nina Kim. Kim, who is ranked sixth in the nation in the all-around, has been sick for the past two days. If she feels well enough by the time the meet starts, Kim will do a beam routine, where she is the anchor.
Scheduled to replace Kim in the NCAA West Regional, which starts at 6 p.m. PT (7 p.m. MT) is Gael Mackie on vault, Jacquelyn Johnson on bars and Stephanie McAllister on floor. It will mark the first bar routine of Johnson's career. The sophomore has competed just once and it was on the floor exercise back on Feb. 9 at Utah State. Should Kim be unable to compete on beam, the freshman McAllister will perform the first beam routine of her Ute career.
The Utes will begin the meet on a bye and will rotate as follows once they begin actual competition: floor, bars, bye, beam, vault. Utah must finish in the top two at regionals in order to advance to the NCAA Championships for a record 28th-consecutive year.
