SALT LAKE CITY - The University of Utah men's golf team will compete in the seventh annual University of Wyoming Cowboy Classic in Scottsdale, Ariz. The tournament kicks off on Monday, April 6 with two rounds and wraps up with a final round on Tuesday. The event is hosted by the University of Wyoming and will take place at the Talking Stick Golf Club, par-70, 7,133 yards.
The field is made up of 22 teams: Wyoming, Arizona, Boise State, Fresno State, Gonzaga, Idaho, Northwestern, Old Dominion, Oregon State, San Diego, San Diego State, San Jose State, Southern Utah, Texas, UC Davis, UC Riverside, UC Santa Barbara, Pacific, UTEP, Weber State and Western Carolina.
UC Davis has placed first in the team standings for the last two years. In 2007 they shot a score of 840 (272, 282, 286) and improved last year with a score of 833 (273, 280, 280).
Troy Merritt of Boise State placed first in the individual standings last year shooting a score of 202 (71, 65, 66), eight-under-par.
In the Utes last action at the Duck Invitational Utah scored a three round total of 916 (311, 304, 301) tying for 12th-place. Senior Chance Cota led the Utes tying for 20th-place at six-over-par, 222 (76, 74, 72).
