With fall practice winding down, UtahUtes.com starts a series called '10 Questions With..' that will lead fans up to the start of the 2011 season. Each week a different student-athlete will be spotlighted. This week's spotlight is senior relief pitcher Stephen Streich.
What is your favorite baseball memory?
My favorite baseball memory was walking out of Lupton Stadium at TCU after winning the conference baseball tournament. I looked over to then-Ute pitcher Brian Budrow and we both just smiled. It was that feeling of accomplishing something no one thought we could. I'll never forget it.
Do you have a nickname? How did you get your nickname?
People call me `Striker'. It started back in high school, first day of class, and has stuck ever since.
Why did you choose Utah? What is the best thing about Utah?
I chose Utah because they gave me the opportunity to play DI baseball. The best thing about Utah has been the relationships I've built over the past three years.
Who has been the biggest influence in your life and why?
My biggest influence has been my family. Everything I've wanted to pursue they have been supportive of.
My favorite thing about Salt Lake City is:
The downtown culture. Living downtown gives you a little taste of everything.
The teammate I most admire is who, and why?
Austin Shackelford. He wasn't recruited out of high school, had to try to walk-on here, and could very well be our starting right fielder. His work ethic, determination and belief in himself are things I think everyone should admire.
What do you like best about Coach Kinneberg?
I like his ability to relate to his players on a personal level.
What are your goals for this year?
Win the weekend. If we win the weekend on a consistent basis, we will be a very good team.
What are your pregame superstitions?
I'm not very superstitious. However, pregame handshakes are a must. Keeps everyone loose.
What is your major and what do you want to do after you graduate?
I am a New Media Communication major. I would love to be able to play baseball professionally and then get into coaching.
