SALT LAKE CITY - - Utah interim head women's basketball coach Anthony Levrets has announced the signing of two student-athletes to National Letters of Intent. Cheyenne Wilson, a combo guard from Cleveland High School in Seattle, Wash., and Rachel Morris, a post player from Virgin Valley High School in Mequite, Nev., will join the Utes for the 2011-12 campaign.
Wilson was named the 3A Washington Player of the Year after leading Cleveland to the 3A state championship in 2010. She was the MVP of the state tournament.
"Cheyenne is a dynamic young woman on-and-off the floor," Levrets said. "She is a big, strong guard who can play inside and outside, and will fit perfectly into our system."
The 5'11" guard averaged 19 points, 5.2 rebounds, 6.7 assists and 2.6 steals per game as a junior. Wilson played AAU ball with Seattle Rotary Lady Style.
Morris, who was a 3A all-state selection in 2010, led Virgin Valley to a league title and earned Southern Conference MVP honors.
At 6-4, Morris is expected to give Utah a continued presence inside. As a junior she averaged 11.6 points, 9.7 rebounds and 5.2 blocks per game, helping her team reach the state semifinals. She already holds the Nevada state record with 474 career blocked shots. She played AAU ball with the Salt Lake Metro club program. Morris is also an all-state volleyball player.
"We are excited about the addition of these two student-athletes," Levrets said. "They will provide us with length, athleticism and scoring."
