SALT LAKE CITY - Shayla Houlihan, Utah's Graduate Assistant Coach of the women's track and field team, competed in the 2010 USA Indoor Track and Field Championships over the weekend in Albuquerque, N.M. finishing sixth in the 3000m event with a new lifetime best of 9:19.23 after altitude adjustments.

Houlihan qualified for National Championships while competing at the Husky Invitational on Feb. 13. She blasted past her previous record time by 20 seconds, finishing in 9:23.82 for sixth place overall.

As a former Utah runner Houlihan owns the Utah school record in the steeplechase (10.43.60). She was a member of the fourth-place distance medley relay team at the Mountain West Conference Indoor Championships. Houlihan was also named to the USTFCCCA All-Academic and MWC Academic All-Conference teams.

Houlihan finished her undergraduate career at the University of Northern Iowa as the school record holder in the steeplechase. She also won the 8000m race at the 2007 Drake Relays. Houlihan graduated from UNI with a degree in exercise science and a minor in coaching and obtained her master's of science in health promotion and education from the University of Utah in the spring of 2009.
