The NCAA office announced the pairings for the upcoming NCAA Women's Gymnastics Regionals today and the Salt Lake City Regional will consist of host Utah, Florida, Auburn, Boise State, Denver and Washington. A total of six NCAA Regional Championships will be held on Saturday, April 10, with the top two teams from each qualifying into the NCAA Championships in Gainesville, Fla., on April 22-24.
Tickets for the Salt Lake City Regional, which will start at 6 p.m. on April 10, are available at UtahUtes.com and by calling 801-581-UTIX (8849). Reserved seats range from $8-$13 ($6-$11 for youth), while general admission tickets are $6 for adults and $5 for youth.
Utah finished the regular season ranked No. 10 and is the No. 2 seed in its regional. Seeded No. 1 is No. 4-ranked Florida. All six teams finished the regular season ranked in the top 25, with Auburn No. 16, Boise State No. 19, Denver No. 22 and Washington No. 23.
Five all-arounders and three individual event specialists also qualified for the Salt Lake City Regional. The all-arounders are Heather Heinrich (Utah State), Jenna Dudley (Air Force), Lyndsie Boone (Utah State), Brittany Dutton (Air Force) and Meghan Hargens (Wisconsin-Stout). Qualifying on an event were Gabi Hooper (Wisconsin-LaCrosse) on vault, Jackie Dillon (Utah State) on bars, Lisa Wong (Air Force) on beam and Michelle Denise (Air Force) on floor.
The Utes drew the following rotation order for regionals: floor, vault, bye, bars, beam, bye. Rotating with the Utes will be at-large all-arounder Dudley of Air Force.
Utah is 1-1 against the regional field, with a win over Washington on Jan. 29 and a loss to Florida on Mar. 19. Both meets were on the road.
Utah is making its 35th-consecutive appearance at the regional championships and has qualified for regionals and nationals every year since becoming a varsity program back in the 1975-76 season. The Utes have won 26 regional titles (including 23 of 28 NCAA regionals) and finished second in all of the others. This marks the first time since 2005 that Utah has hosted a region championship. Since NCAA competition for women began, Utah has won all 10 region championships it has hosted (the U. placed second in the 1976 AIAW regional meet).
