After traveling cross country on Tuesday, the Ute gymnasts spent Wednesday working out in the University of Florida's O'Connell Center, and participating in activities such as CBS interviews and a press conference.
The Utes, who drew the early practice session, were in the training room by 8 a.m. getting treatments from Associate Director of Sports Medicine Tom Iriye. At 9:30, the team and staff boarded the bus for the arena, where Iriye finished his taping and the team took part in some pre-broadcast video.
Utah's training session began at 10:30 a.m. under the watchful eyes of co-head coaches Greg and Megan Marsden, assistant coach Jeff Graba, director of operations Cameron Linford and Utah meet director Anne Marie Jensen. Practice went well, with the Utes spending most of their time adjusting to the brand new equipment that is standard at the NCAA Championships.
After concluding their training session at 12:10, five Utes and co-coach Megan Marsden were requested for specialty shoots with CBS. Utah student-athletes participating in the CBS segment were Jamie Deetscreek, Daria Bijak, Annie DiLuzio, Kyndal Robarts and Stephanie McAllister.
Following a coaches' meeting, Megan Marsden and DiLuzio fielded questions at the pre-championships' press conference. Said Marsden, "More and more of us feel lucky to get here (nationals) with such tough competition at regionals. We feel like we're coming together at the right time and saving the best for last. We need to be at our best on every event and that is our goal."
The Utes spent the rest of the afternoon studying. The evening plans include dinner, (injury) treatments and a team meeting. It will be an early night for the team, which will go through a similar morning routine as it did today, prior to competing in the first semifinal starting at 1 p.m. Eastern time on Thursday.
