SALT LAKE CITY - The University of Utah athletics department has announced the hiring of two new employees: Emily Vardell has accepted a position as assistant director of the Crimson Club, while Erik Weierholt is the new compliance and initial eligibility coordinator.
Vardell brings experience in event planning, communications and marketing from past positions at Washington State University, the University of Idaho, Fox Sports Net NW and the Seattle SuperSonics. She received her degree in public relations from Washington State, with a minor in sport management. Vardell's husband Jordan is the athletics marketing coordinator at Utah.
Weierholt, a Utah athletics compliance department legal intern from 2007-09, spent this past year as the director of compliance at Utah Valley University. A member of the Utah Bar Association, Weierholt received his law degree from the U. in 2009. He earned a bachelor's degree in business management from UVU in 2003.
Weierholt replaced Ashley Lear, who moved into a new position in student-athlete support services as an academic advisor and the tutorial coordinator.
