Eight-time All-America senior gymnast Daria Bijak has been named to the ESPN The Magazine Academic All-District VIII first team, as announced by the College Sports Information Directors of America (CoSIDA).
Bijak is now eligible for the national at-large Academic All-America ballot. She was a second-team academic all-district selection in 2008 and 2009.
Bijak led the Utah gymnasts into the 2010 NCAA Super Six last month, earning first-team All-America honors in the all-around and on the uneven bars. The eight-time All-American and 2008 Olympian carries a 3.85 grade point average in film studies.
Bijak has won a number of academic awards during her Utah career, including citations as a Mountain West Conference Scholar Athlete, NACGC Scholastic All-American and member of the Dean's List. She recently won Utah's 2010 Bud Jack Academic Award, which is given to the senior female athlete with the highest cumulative GPA. She is also a two-time recipient of the Dahl Award, which goes to the Utah's gymnastics scholar-athlete.
Awardees are selected through voting by CoSIDA, a 2,000-member organization consisting of sports public relations professionals for colleges and universities in the United States and Canada.
