SALT LAKE CITY - The University of Utah athletic teams had a record-setting semester in the classroom this spring with 11 teams earning above a 3.0 grade-point average. A total of 212 student-athletes--equating to 57-percent of the varsity team members--made the honor roll (3.0 GPA or better).
Twenty-four percent of Utah's student-athletes qualified for the spring Dean's List, which requires a 3.5 GPA. That is a higher percentage of Dean's List members than the general student population, which typically averages around 20 percent.
Eight teams improved their GPA from the fall semester and football recorded its best academic semester in over a decade.
Women's skiing finished the academic year with the best GPA of all the Ute teams, posting a 3.54 cumulative GPA.
