Despite the absence competition for over a month, the Utah swimming and diving team is not taking a vacation. The Utes have been on a tough training regimen in order to be in top shape when they return for the second half of the season.
"This break has given us a chance to build up our weak base," said Utah head coach Greg Winslow. "We have been working really hard and have been able to race at top speed, while also playing around with race plans and different turns and starting techniques."
The long stretch of practice will challenge the Utes to mentally prepare for the Incarnate Word Invitational later this month.
"This is the first time we've tried this," said Winslow. "We will definitely be in shape, but we'll see how sharp the kids are. It will be a matter of banging off the rust and getting back into racing mode."
The Incarnate Word Invitational will take place in San Antonio, Texas, Dec. 17-19 with the Utes facing Southern Methodist University, Texas Christian, Missouri State, Rice, and Incarnate Word.
