TUSCON, Ariz. - The University of Utah men's golf team completed its first tournament of the season Tuesday at the Arizona Intercollegiate. The Utes finished with a three-round score of 926 (302-315-309), placing them in 15th. Freshman Ben Bankhead led the Utes in 46th place, posting a mark of 227 (74-78-75).
Senior Derek Adams finished tied for 67th with a mark of 233 (75-78-80), while fellow senior Jeff Kitches posted a mark of 236 (82-74-80), placing him in 77th. Other notable Ute finishers were seniors Mike Branca with a three-round score of 239 (79-85-75) and Chase Hite, who posted a score of 242 (74-89-79).
The winner of the tournament was San Diego State with a total of 859 (285-286-288) and top individual performer was Pepperdine's Andrew Putnam, who finished with a mark 206 (65-71-70).
The Utes return to action in Oahu, Hawaii at the University of Hawaii John Burns Intercollegiate, Feb. 16-18, on the 6,917-yard Leilehua Golf Course.
