SALT LAKE CITY - The University of Utah soccer team got its spring exhibition season off to a winning start with a 4-0 victory over Westminster Friday at Ute Field.
After being slowed by scoring difficulties in the fall, Utah needed only two minutes of spring action to find the back of the net for the first time. Freshman Jen Ericson scored twice in the first 10 minutes of the game on nearly identical plays, hitting crosses into the box that drifted over the Westminster goalkeeper's head and in for the score.
Junior Erin Dalley then tacked on a pair of goals in the second half, slotting the ball home after receiving a through-ball from freshman Jenny Hutton in the 66th minute and another from freshman Leslie Muirhead in the 78th minute.
Junior goalkeeper Hannah Turpen played the first half between the pipes for the Utes, while freshman Cheyanne Mulcock was in goal for the second half, as they combined for the shutout.
Utah's next spring exhibition action will be Saturday, April 2, as the Utes play a double header at UNLV. Their next home game will be played Tuesday, April 5, at 4:30 p.m. at the McCarthey Family Track and Field.
