SALT LAKE CITY - The University of Utah volleyball program's incoming freshmen class was ranked 20th by PrepVolleyball.com, the publication announced Wednesday.
Eight other Pac-12 schools were listed among the top 30. Utah was ranked ahead of Oregon (No. 21) and Stanford (No. 23) while Washington State received Highest Honorable Mention recognition.
Utah's incoming freshmen class includes:
Bailey Bateman, 6-1, MB, Fremont H.S. (Hooper, Utah)
Shelby Dalton, 6-0, MB/OH, Grand County H.S. (Moab, Utah)
Becca Fuchs, 5-11, OH, Menomonee Falls H.S. (Menomonee Falls, Wis.)
Chelsey Schofield, 6-1, OH, Mountain View H.S. (Orem, Utah)
Alli Spurrier, 6-3, RS, Olympus H.S. (Salt Lake City, Utah)
The following is an excerpt from PrepVolleyball.com:
Heading into its first Pac-12 season, Utah needed to add firepower and got it in this five-player class. "We're excited about this class for a lot of reasons," head coach Beth Launiere said. "They will make our program stronger. There is a lot of physicality, athleticism and volleyball skill in the makeup of this class."
Bateman and Schofield, two Top 100 Senior Aces, headline the class. Bateman is an aggressive middle blocker with great athleticism and physicality. Schofield is an experienced point scorer with length, intensity and intelligence and a mature, refined game. A three-sport star, Dalton is a tremendous all-around athlete who should make serious gains once she focuses only on volleyball. Fuchs is a tremendous leaper with all-around skills and great desire. Finally, Spurrier is a sleeper, a long lefty with tremendous blocking instincts. Utah got on her early, which was good because there were a ton of college coaches wondering why they didn't spot her sooner.
