FGCU Spring Break Tournament Notes

The University of Utah softball team concludes its preseason tournament slate with six games in three days at the Florida Gulf Coast Spring Break Tournament in Ft. Myers, Fla. All games will be played at the FGCU Softball Complex.
The Utes will start the week against Georgetown on Friday at 3:45 p.m. ET. Their second game of the day will be against the Florida Gulf Coast Eagles at 8:15 p.m. ET. Utah's doubleheader on Saturday will start against Howard at 6 p.m. ET, then the Utes will close the event against Stony Brook at 8:15 p.m. ET. Utah will stay in Florida for a separate doubleheader on Monday against Colgate at 10 a.m. ET.
The Utes have won 11 in a row, 14 of their last 15 and sport a 15-3 overall record.

New Mexico Invitational Review: The Utes won all four of their games last weekend at the New Mexico Invitational in Albuquerque, N.M. Utah outscored its opponents 33-8 and held a 33-14 advantage in hits. Ute hitters tallied a .317 average at the plate, while their opponents hit .149.
Holm Climbs the Utah Home Run Chart: Holm is tied for the Pac-12 Conference lead with eight home runs this season and she is second in the league with 26 RBI. Holm currently stands fourth in school history with 36 career home runs. She needs just one more round-tripper to move into a third-place tie with Cyndee Bennett (1994-97) on Utah's all-time home run list.
Ute Player Notes
Utah senior right-hander Generra Nielson (Blanding, Utah) struck out 26 opposing hitters, opposed to only six walks, in 20.1 innings this weekend at the New Mexico Invitational. She appeared in all four games and went 3-0 in pitching decisions over the weekend to improve to 10-2 this year and 31-14 over her career. She has won her last six decisions and accumulated a 1.38 ERA, while allowing only four earned runs on nine hits. Opposing hitters mustered only a .130 average against Nielson. Nielson has thrown seven complete games this season and 18 over her Utah career. She has struck out 10 or more hitters seven times this season and 12 times during her Ute career.
