WALNUT, Calif. - Getting the first day of the Mt. Sac Relays off to a quick start, AuraLea Fain and Andrea Chavez both posted lifetime-best performances for the Utes. The young athletes set the tone for the Utes with one day left of competition on Friday.
"We got off to a great start today," Utah head coach Kyle Kepler said. "Both our girls ran really smart and intelligent races. It is a lot of fun to watch two young kids run so well. I was very pleased and look forward to a full day of action on Friday."
Leading the day off was freshman Andrea Chavez in the 1500m open. Chavez got off to a great start in her heat and finished with a new four-second personal record time of 4:28.39. Her time earned 49th overall in the event.
AuraLea Fain ran at a very consistent rate throughout the women's 10000m open capturing seventh place. Fain completed most of her laps between 86 and 87 seconds, with a final lap time of 79 seconds. Her overall time was 36:20.51, which is a lifetime best performance by a minute and 10 seconds.
The Utes will return to action all day on Friday before heading to the Long Beach State Invitational on Saturday.
