It's no secret that facilities and resources for coaches and student-athletes are major keys to on-field success in intercollegiate athletics. The University of Utah's "Invest in Excellence" fund-raising campaign takes aim at improving those areas to keep its athletics programs competitive in the Pac-12 Conference.
Behind the Bleachers
*The average athletics budget in the Pac-12 is $63.5 million. Utah's budget is $36.8 million.
*The Utah athletics department is chipping in $50 million, or a third of the $150 million it hopes to raise, to the Invest in Excellence campaign. The $50 million will come from Pac-12 revenues.
*The remaining $100 million must come from private sources.
