While the Utah men's basketball team prepares for the 2013-14 season, UtahUtes.com will spotlight its new members in a weekly segment, `Getting to Know U.'
Today's spotlight is on junior transfer Marko Kovacevic. The 6-11 product of Belgrade, Serbia averaged 11.7 points and a team-best 7.8 rebounds per game for Western Nebraska CC. There he helped the Cougars to a 26-7 record and a run to the NJCAA Region IX Tournament Semifinals His rebounding total ranked him 11th in Region IX and he had the third-best field-goal percentage.

Fishing

In high school they called me Smiley
Why did you choose Utah? What is the best thing about Utah?
I just felt comfortable with the coaching staff and the players on the team. Everything on campus and in town is so beautiful. I'm really excited to represent the basketball program.
Who had the biggest influence in your life?
My dad. He used to play basketball professionally and so I always look to him for advice and guidance.
What is your favorite thing about Salt Lake City?
How beautiful everything is. The mountains and scenery are spectacular.
The teammate(s) I admire most are who, and why?
Milos Prijovic. I played with him for maybe, four or five years. He was a little older than me and he came over here to play junior college basketball in Texas before going on to Canada.
What do you like best about Coach Krystkowiak?
He has been a great teacher of the game. Everything he tells us to do on the basketball court turns out to be right.
What are your goals for this year?
Try and get a double-double
What is your game day music?
Hip-hop. I like Serbian music, Boj Na Kosovu
What is your major?
Communications
What do you want to do after you graduate?
Play professionally. But right now I'm very focused on school and getting my degree.
What's your favorite food?
Sarma. It's cabbage leaves rolled around a filling usually based on minced meat and rice
If you go anywhere on vacation where would it be?
Hawaii
