WALNUT CREEK, Calif.-- Utah gymnast Breanna Hughes, a freshman from Champlin, Minn., was honored as Utah's first Pac-12 Freshman of the Week for her efforts against Georgia last Saturday.
Making her first appearance in one of college gymnastics toughest venues (Stegeman Coliseum in Athens, Ga.), Breanna Hughes went 2-of-2, scoring a 9.80 on bars and tying for second place on beam with a season-high 9.875. For the season, Hughes is 18-of-18 in hit routines.
Utah has now collected seven Pac-12 weekly honors this season--one Gymnast of the Week (Georgia Dabritz, Jan. 22), five Specialist of the Week (Dabritz, Feb. 12, Tory Wilson, Jan. 22, Feb. 5 and Feb. 19; and Lia Del Priore, Feb. 23) and one Freshman of the Week (Hughes, Mar. 12).
In their two years as a member of the Pac-12 Conference, the Utes have won 11 total weekly Pac-12 honors: eight Specialist of the Week, two Gymnast of the Week and one Freshman of the Week.
