SALT LAKE CITY-- -
The Utah gymnasts are one four of the six Super Six finalists from a year ago who will square off in the power-packed evening semifinal of the upcoming NCAA Championships in Los Angeles on Friday, April 19. Battling the Utes on the first day of the championships will be fellow 2012 Super Six teams Alabama, UCLA and Arkansas, along with Oklahoma and Michigan. The afternoon semifinal has the other two Super Six finalists from a year ago--Florida and Stanford--as well as Georgia, LSU, Minnesota and Illinois.
The top three teams from the two semifinals, which start at noon and 6 p.m. PDT on April 19, will qualify into the Super Six team finals on Saturday, Apr. 20 at 4 p.m. PDT. The individual event championships are scheduled for Sunday, Apr. 21 starting at 1 p.m. EDT. Utah leads the nation in Super Six appearances with 18 (tied with Alabama) and is the only program to make the Super Six every year since 2000.
Utah also learned its draw today, and just like a year ago, the Utes will start their NCAA competition on the floor exercise and finish it on the beam. The Utes will sit out the first rotation on a bye before getting started on floor.
Tickets for the NCAA Championships in Utah's section may be purchased through the ticket office (utahutes.com or 801-581-UTIX) from April 8-12. Prices for all sessions are $55 for adults and $40 for youth, and all seats are reserved.
