As part of the women's basketball team trip to Europe, the Utes participated in several programs through the US Embassy in Copenhagen aimed at learning more about other cultures and giving back.
The first stop of the day was a women's center for Somali immigrants. The Utes had the chance to speak with the women about assimilating to life in Denmark. They discussed how many of the women had never seen a computer before going to Denmark and how they had taken their cooking skills and created a large catering company.
"Watching our players interact with these young women was remarkable," Utah head coach Anthony Levrets said. "It was one of the most powerful exchanges and cultural experiences I have ever experienced."
The Utes also went to an intercity center and put on a basketball clinic for underprivileged youths and received a tour of the ambassador's house in Copenhagen.
"It was an amazing day," Levrets said. "Our players gained perspective and had the opportunity to give back. They had the opportunity to see that many of the things they have, a whole segment of the population doesn't have."
