SALT LAKE CITY--
The Pac-12 Conference released the 2014 gymnastics schedule today and for the second-straight year, the Utes will be the most televised gymnastics team in the conference. Utah will appear on the Pac-12 Networks a total of seven times--five of them national broadcasts. The televised meets include five in the Huntsman Center, one road dual meet and the Pac-12 Championships in Berkeley, Calif.
Utah, which qualified for a record 38th-straight national championship last April, has four other teams from the 2013 NCAA Championships on this year's schedule: UCLA (twice), Stanford, Michigan and Georgia.
"Our fans will see a lot of great gymnastics this season--in the Huntsman Center and on television. Our schedule allows us to meet some of the best teams in the country week-in and week-out, which is great preparation for the postseason," said Utah co-head coach Greg Marsden.
Utah opens its season at home on Jan. 11 against regional foes Brigham Young, Southern Utah and Boise State. Other marquee matchups on the six-meet home schedule are against UCLA (Jan. 25), Oregon State (Feb. 22) and Georgia (Mar. 15).
Season tickets for the nation's attendance leader--Utah averaged 14,349 fans a home meet last year to lead all women's sports--are on sale now at UtahUtes.com or by calling 801-581-UTIX. More than 5,000 season tickets have already been sold.
Highlighting the road schedule is Utah's first meet at Stanford since 1998 (the teams have met 26 times in their history, but just once in Palo Alto) and a tri-meet in Ann Arbor, Mich., with Michigan and UCLA.
The 2014 Pac-12 Conference Championships will be hosted by Cal on April 5. It will mark Utah's second trip to Berkeley: The Utes open their conference schedule at Cal on Jan. 17. The NCAA Regionals are scheduled for April 5 at a location to be determined. The 2014 NCAA Championships will be held in Birmingham, Ala., Apr. 18-20.
The Utes return 12 letterwinners--including their entire 2013 NCAA Championships' lineup--and nine All-Americans. New to the team is freshman Baely Rowe, a three-time Junior Olympic champion. Fans will get their first chance to see the Utes at the annual Red Rocks Preview on Friday, Dec. 13 at 7 p.m. in the Huntsman Center. Admission to the popular event is free.
