LOS ANGELES- Utah women's swimming and diving came up just short of #16 UCLA today by a score of 157-134 at the Spieker Aquatics Center. Taking wins for the Utes were Stina Colleou in the 100 breast (1:04.18) as well as in the 200 breast (2:16.67) and Amanda Barrett in the 400 IM 4:29.53.
Also coming away with a win for Utah was the 400 free relay team consisting of Traycie Swartz, Giuliana Gilgiotti, Petra Soininen and Nicole Ligeza (3:28.98).
Soininen took second in the 100 fly (56.25) with Melissa Paakh taking third (57.37) followed by Sydney Bull (58.03) and Terasa Ring (59.16). Soininen placed third in the 200 fly (2:02.78) with Bull following (2:07.02). Also taking second was the 200 medley team of Swartz, Ligeza,
Soininen and Gigliotti (1:43.70). Brianna Francis came in second in the 400 IM (4:32.81).
Touching in third in the 1000 free was Sami Zuch with a time of 10:12.46 followed by Selin Ozturk (10:22.16). Also taking third in the 100 back was Barrett (58.04) with Mary Saiz taking fourth (58.84). Barrett also took third in the 200 back (2:02.56).
Swartz came in third in the 50 free with a time of 23.69. Taking third in the 100 fly was Melissa Paakh (57.37) with Bull taking fourth (58.03).
In diving, Kersten Merry came away with wins on both the 1-meter (273.65) and 3-meter (299.55). Amanda Casillas was third in both 1-meter (257.75) and 3-meter (253.95). Haley Blount finished second on 3-meter (266.25).
The Utes also had competitors competing in the UCLA Bruin Invitational this weekend. In 1-meter dives, Jacob Crayne took the top spot with a score of 718.00. Caleb Herrick took sixth (575.50). In 3-meter dives, Merry took fourth with a score of 570.80. Haley Blount took tenth with a score of 532.00.
Utah's next meet will be against BYU on Jan. 24 at the Richard's Building in Provo at 5 p.m.
