Practice Summary ...
? Utah was in shorts and shoulder pads on Wednesday for its second practice of UCLA week (Saturday at 7:30 p.m. PT / Pac-12 Networks). Tagging a ball carrier was enough to bring them down during a workout held at the Eccles Center Practice Facility and also spent some time indoor in the Eccles Facility .
? The Utes continued to get ready for their first road game at a conference opponent by focusing on their assignments in each phase of the game that they will need to execute when facing the Bruins.
Practice Highlights ...
? Media viewing (final 20 minutes) began with the first-team offensive and defensive lines going 1-on-1 in the north end, while the scout team lines went through similar drills. All other members of the team scrimmaged 7-on-7 on the opposite end.
? In the next segment, special teams work on the 40-yard line in the south end zone, while the offense went through their plays and assignments and the linemen concentrated on their technique.
? The next period of the practice began with full-team live work in the red zone with the first team offense going against the first-team defense for one series, followed by the second units going against each other. ? The final period began with the first team offense starting from the 6-yard line going against the first-team defense for one series, followed by the second units going against each other.
From Coach Whittingham ...
? We have to play a full 60 minutes, whether it's the first game or the fifth game. The offense has to shore up its consistency. ? He indicated that there are periods where they slow down the offense and focus on ball control. ? Travis Wilson is progressing in reading defenses and doing a good job of avoiding sacks. ? Kendal Thompson is a good decision maker and we have a lot of confidence in him. ? He said that Utah's fronts on both sides of the ball can matchup with just about anyone else in the country. ? Playing at nationally-ranked UCLA in primetime will be good exposure for his program. ? The coaching staff will take advantage of being in Los Angeles on Friday night by watching prospects at high school games.
Post-Practice Impressions from the Ute Players ...
Linebacker Jared Norris
? We're doing everything we can to move from the Washington State game.
