The Utah gymnastics team, which won the school's first Pac-12 Championship in 2014, led all women's sports in attendance and produced the sport's first 1,000-win coach, has recorded another first: The Utes led the nation in grade point average among women's gymnastics teams, the National Association of Collegiate Gymnastics Coaches for Women (NACGC/W) announced today.
The 2014 Ute gymnasts won the academic championship by posting a cumulative GPA of 3.7827 and 14 Utes were named NACGC/W Scholastic All-Americans.
Utah's 2014 Scholastic All-Americans included team members Hailee Hansen (4.0 GPA), Breanna Hughes (3.97), Tory Wilson (3.86), Kailah Delaney (3.84), Mary Beth Lofgren (3.84), Becky Tutka (3.84), Georgia Dabritz (3.81), Nansy Damianova (3.81), Haley Lange (3.79), Lia Del Priore (3.76), Kassandra Lopez (3.74) and Corrie Lothrop (3.64). Also honored were team managers Alyssa Gale (3.95) and Victoria Shanley (3.76). The 14 individual citations were the second-most of any school.
The 2014 season also saw the Utes lead all women's teams in attendance average for the fourth time in the last five years, averaging an NCAA gymnastics record 14,376 fans to their home meets. Coach Greg Marsden became the sport's first 1,000-win coach and he and co-head coach Megan Marsden were shared the Pac-12 Coach of the Year award. Utah won the NCAA Fayetteville Regional and qualified for a record 39th-consecutive national championship, which includes all 33 NCAA Championships.
Among Utah's Scholastic All-Americans were 2014 All-Americans Wilson, Dabritz, Damianova, Tutka, Del Priore and Delaney. Wilson was the Pac-12 Gymnast of the Year and Dabritz the Pac-12 Specialist of the Year.
