SALT LAKE CITY - Joining them next fall at Utah will be MyKayla Skinner, who recently qualified for her second World Championships as a USA National team member. Skinner signed an NLI with the Utes a year ago, but deferred enrollment to concentrate on pursuing a berth on the 2016 U.S. Olympic team.
"We are thrilled with this recruiting class," said Utah co-head coach Tom Farden. "We are gaining explosiveness and competition experience at the highest level. All three of them could have a significant impact on our lineup next year. Our fans will love their gymnastics."
Reinstadtler (pronounced ryne-stat-ler), the 2013 Junior Olympic National floor champion in the Junior B division and a regional beam and floor champion, qualified as a Junior International Elite that year. After winning the all-around, vault, bars and floor at the 2014 SCEGA California Classic Elite Qualifier, she was upgraded to Senior International Elite status. She is currently competing as a Level 10.
Reinstadtler qualified for both the 2013 and 2014 American Classic and Secret U.S. Classic, and also competed in the 2013 P&G Championships.
Her 2015 results included third place in the all-around at regionals and ninth place in both the all-around and on vault at the J.O. Nationals (Senior A division).
"Missy is a talented elite-level athlete with outstanding execution on each event," said Farden. "She has the rare combination of power and grace in her gymnastics and could compete for an all-around spot as a freshman."
Reinstadtler is coached by Tony Gehman, Ashley Miller and Anne Meade at North Stars Gymnastics Academy. A senior at Brick Township High School, she has made the honor roll every semester. Her parents are Carla and Tom Reinstadtler.
Tessen is a two-time Junior Olympic National qualifier who recorded four top-10 finishes at the 2015 J.O. Nationals (Senior A division). She was the 2015 Region 1 silver medalist on vault and bars and placed fourth in the all-around. She finished second in the all-around at the 2015 Utah state championships and won the vault.
In 2012, Tessen won the Region 1 Level 10 all-around title (Junior A division) and took second on vault. She was sixth on vault at the 2012 J.O. nationals, also in Junior A.
"Kim is a strong all-around gymnast with great power on vault and floor," said Farden. "She is a well-coached local athlete and she will be a great addition to our program."
Tessen attends Mountain View High School, where she is a member of the National Honor Society. She trains at All-American Gymnastics for coaches Jimmy Pratt and Dawn Johnson. Her parents are Colleen and Chip Tessen.
Skinner, whose first name is pronounced mih-kay-la, is a three-year member of the U.S. Senior National Team and has qualified for past two World Championships. She competed on the gold medalist USA team at the 2014 World Championships in Nanning, China, and individually placed third on vault and fourth on floor. Skinner also represented the U.S. at the 2015 World Championships in Glasgow, Scotland as an alternate.
Skinner finished second on vault and seventh in the all-around at the 2015 Secret U.S. Classic to qualify into the P&G Championship, where she placed second on vault, third on floor and seventh in the all-around.
Skinner's other international accolades include four gold medals at the 2014 Pan American Championships in Toronto (team, all-around, vault and floor). She won vault and floor, and was fourth in the all-around, at the 2014 City of Jesolo Trophy in Italy. The United States won the team gold medal at both meets.
"MyKayla is a world-class athlete who is currently pursuing her Olympic dream. We have enjoyed supporting her in this endeavor and look forward to the day when she is on our campus in a Utah leotard. She will make an immediate impact on all four events and could be a contender for NCAA titles her freshman year," said Farden.
Skinner trains at Desert Lights in Chandler, Ariz., for coaches Lisa Spini, John Spini, Neela Nelson, Bob Peterson and Bruce McGehee. She is the daughter of Kym and Cris Skinner.
