"Utah Athletics is proud to be nestled in the foothills of Salt Lake City,' Utah marketing director Jennifer White stated. "It is our goal to continue to paint downtown Salt Lake City as the Home of the Utes. This mural is just one of several initiatives we have to expand our brand into downtown. We want SLC to feel like a college town."
The mural, 75 feet wide by 25 feet tall, took local artist Douglas Wilson about a month to design and paint. The hope is that this project revitalizes the surrounding area while also reinforcing the Utah brand in Salt Lake City.
"As a local artist and graphic designer I am very happy Utah Athletics approached me with this great opportunity to expand its brand while leaving my mark on Salt Lake City," Wilson said. "I am a graduate of the University of Utah and have been passionate about the arts for many years. Painting murals is not a new thing for me, but painting this one was truly the most exciting. While working as the full time graphic designer for Utah Athletics I often thought of working towards bigger branding projects like this. I truly enjoyed my time on this project and look forward to future projects continuing the expansion of the Utah Athletics brand."
