SANTA BARBARA, Calif. - The Utah golf team sits in third place after two rounds of the OGIO UC Santa Barbara Intercollegiate Monday at the Sandpiper Golf Club. The squad tallied a score of 589 (295-294) and were led by three Utes in the top-15 of the player standings.
Junior Jose Pelayo triple birdied in the second round and finished the day with a two-over-par score of 146 (75-71) to tie for seventh. Junior Brandon Kida was not far behind, tying for 10th with a three-over mark of 147 (72-75), while fellow junior Max McGrail swung back-to-back 74s to tie for 13th.
Junior Steven Croft tied for 22nd with a score of 152 (74-78) and junior Jonathon Thomas rounded out Utah's lineup tied for 31st with a mark of 153 (79-74). Sophomore Justin Mortensen, junior Brent Pollock and senior Jack Maerki each competed as individuals. Mortensen is currently tied for 34th with a mark of 154 (79,75), Pollock swung a 155 (76-79) and is tied for 39th and Maerki sits in a tie for 46th with a score of 158 (82,76).
The Utes return to the Sandpiper Golf Club for the third and final round of the OGIO UCSB Intercollegiate Tuesday. Live scoring is available at golfstat.com.
