SALT LAKE CITY -
The Ute gymnasts, who last month placed second at the NCAA Championships, finished first among Utah's student-athletes in the classroom this spring, recording a spring semester cumulative grade point average of 3.693. It marked the fourth time in the last six semesters that the gymnasts have claimed school's athletic GPA title, dating back to fall of 2012.
All 13 members of Utah's current team made the Athletic Director's Honor Roll (3.00 minimum GPA) and seven made the Dean's List (3.50 minimum GPA with 12 graded credits). Named to the Dean's List were Georgia Dabritz (4.00), Breanna Hughes (4.00), Maddy Stover (3.767), Tiffani Lewis (3.727), Samantha Partyka (3.727), Kari Lee (3.715) and Becky Tutka (3.575). Earning a 4.00 but without enough graded credits to qualify for Dean's List status were Kailah Delaney and Kassandra Lopez.
It is the latest in a growing list of academic achievements for the Utes. Last week, the Utah gymnastics team was publicly recognized by the NCAA for posting a multi-year Academic Progress Rate (APR) in the top 10 percent of all gymnastics teams in the country for the four-year period ending in 2013-14.
Dabritz, the 2015 NCAA uneven bar champion, is a candidate for CoSIDA Capital One Academic All-America honors after making the All-District At-Large first team.
Dabritz was the Pac-12 Gymnastics Scholar-Athlete of the Year and one eight Ute gymnasts to earn All-Pac-12 Academic honors. Other members of Utah's two-time defending Pac-12 Championship team to earn All-Pac-12 Academic recognition were Delaney, Hughes, Tutka, Tory Wilson, Lopez, Corrie Lothrop and Baely Rowe.
