Each scholarship of $3,000 goes to student-athletes with a minimum 3.0 grade point average who have also demonstrated a commitment to continuing education, campus and community involvement and leadership. Each Pac-12 institution selects up to four student-athlete recipients, two men and two women, through its institutional selection process. Since the program began in 1999, the Pac-12 has awarded more than $1.5 million for postgraduate study.
Olsen played in 79 games over three seasons for the Utes. He was on the Pac-12 All-Star squad that toured China in 2014. Olsen is the men's basketball program's first three-time first-team Academic All-Pac-12 selection and was named to the 2013-14 NABC Honors Court for his academic success. He will forgo his senior season at Utah due to injury, but will continue working with the team this coming year as he pursues a graduate degree.
Soedel is a four-time All-American for the Utes, having earned the honor twice in both the 50 free (2013, 2015) and 100 free (2013, 2015). Soedel placed 12th in the 50 free at the NCAA Championships this past spring and finished sixth in the 100 free, becoming the first Ute to place in the top eight at the event since 2006. Soedel is Utah's all-time fastest swimmer in the 50 free, 100 free and 200 free, in addition to serving as a member of four school-record relay teams (200 free, 400 free, 200 medley, 400 medley).
Rove, who has a 3.98 grade point average and is majoring in business administration, is a three-time All-American in the giant slalom (2013-15) and earned Academic All-America honors in 2015. The 2014 RMISA women's alpine MVP had two career victories for the Utes, in the slalom at the Colorado Invite and the RMISA Championship in 2014. She is a three-time All-RMISA skier, earning first-team honors in 2014. Rove had 12 career podium finishes during her career with 23 career top-5 finishes.
Winterton is a three-time NCAA regional qualifier in the 10,000 and holds the school record in the event (33.28.43). She was the 2014 MPSF champion in the 5,000 and competed at the NCAA Cross Country Championships in 2013. Winterton ranks second all-time at Utah in both the indoor and outdoor 5,000 as well as the indoor 3,000. She is a three-time track Pac-12 All-Academic selection, a two-time MPSF All-Academic team pick and earned Academic All-Conference honors in cross country four times.
