Ute Gymnastics Team Places Second Nationally in GPA

SALT LAKE CITY - The Utah gymnastics team, which came within a fraction of winning the 2015 NCAA Gymnastics Championship back in April, has finished a close second in the classroom as well.
The 2015 Utes, who placed second at the NCAA Championships in a meet decided by five-hundredths of a point, recorded a 3.7838 team grade-point average to finish second behind Texas Woman's 3.7947 GPA in the national gymnastics academic competition sponsored by the National Association of Collegiate Gymnastics Coaches/Women (NACGC/W).
Utah's 3.7838 team GPA was better than last year's 3.7827, which led all women's gymnastics teams in 2013-14.
Twelve Utes were named 2015 NACGC/W Scholastic All-Americans, among them first-team CoSIDA Academic All-American Georgia Dabritz, who along with Kailah Delaney and Kassandra Lopez, finished the year with a 4.00 GPA.
Also earning NACGC/W Scholastic All-America honors in 2014-15 were Breanna Hughes, Haley Lange, Kari Lee, Tiffani Lewis, Corrie Lothrop, Samantha Partyka, Maddy Stover, Becky Tutka and Tory Wilson.
The NACGC/W recognition is the latest academic achievement for the Utah gymnasts. Utah, which won the 2015 Pac-12 Championship (defending the school's first conference title won in 2014), placed seven members on the Pac-12 All-Academic Team-the most by any school. Dabritz was honored as the 2015 Pac-12 Gymnastic Scholar-Athlete of the Year.
