SUNCADIA, Wash. - The Utah men's golf team carded a 30-over par, (302) on Monday and currently sit in seventh-place following two rounds of play at the Husky Invitational, which is being held at the Tumble Creek Club at Suncadia Resort.
Utah carded a 17-over par (301) in the first round, but then turned around to shave five strokes off their score with a 12-over par (296) in round two at the 6,887-yard, par 71 course.
The Utes will head into Tuesday's final round of action 20 strokes behind Oregon State, who leads the tournament with a two-round score of 9-over par (577). Tournament host, Washington, is tied for second-place with Oregon after both teams combined to shoot 15-over par (583) on the day.
USC (+16) is in fourth-place, Idaho (+23) follows in fifth-place and Minnesota (+26) is just ahead of the Utes in sixth-place. Boise State (+31), Washington State (+32), Gonzaga (+33), UC Davis (+36), BYU (+36), Sacramento State (+36) and Seattle (+56) rounded out team standings on Tuesday.
Senior Brandon Kida carded a first-round 3-over par (74) and followed with a 2-over par (73) in the second round to lead Utah with a combined score of 5-over par (147), which puts him in a tie for 13th-place heading into tomorrow's final round.
Senior Jose Pelayo is in a tie for 25th-place after carding a two-round score of 7-over par (76-73=149) and junior Gentry Hicks follows in a tie for 30th place with a combined score of 8-over par (77-73=150) in his first two rounds of play.
Rounding out team play for the Utes on Monday were seniors Jonathon Thomas (+11, 75-78=153), who is in a tie for 45th-place, and Brent Pollock (+22, 87-77=164), who is in 68th-place.
Playing in his first collegiate event, freshman Trent Hill, fired rounds of 4-over par (76) and 6-ovver par (78) on the way to a two-round score of 10-over par (154). He is currently in sole possession of 14th-place in a separate individual tournament, which is being played at Prospector Golf Course at Suncadia Resort.
Senior Steven Croft, who is also competing in the individual event, carded rounds of 8-over par (80) and 5-over par (77), and is tied for 23rd-place with a combined score of 13-over par (157).
Freshman Nathan Wunderli, who is also playing in his first event as a Ute, combined to shoot 17-over par (79-82=161) on Monday and he sits in 34th-place.
Utah and Washington tallied 107 pars to lead the field over the first two rounds of play. The Utes ranked No. 10 with 20 birdies on the day.
Utah will conclude the Husky Invitational with final round action on Tuesday. Tee-times will begin from both Tee No. 1 and Tee No. 10 at 7:20 a.m. PT. Live Scoring will be available for both team and individual tournaments.
