Flagstaff, Ariz.- Amanda Casillas and Jacob Crayne qualified on the platform event for the NCAA Championships during the final day of competition at the NCAA Zones.
"The entire meet was a tremendous success for everyone and we qualified three divers to nationals for the first time in school history," said Utah head diving coach Richard Marschner. "Our Pac-12 meet was good, but this meet went about as well as we could have hoped."
Casillas qualified on the platform and three-meter event, while Jacob Crayne and Josiah Purss qualified for both the one-meter and three-meter event for the NCAA Championships. Crayne also qualified on the platform event. This will be Casillas' first appearance at the NCAA Championships.
"I'm so proud of Amanda for fighting back from a very rough start in her first dive. She basically spotted the field twenty points with a miss on her back one and a half and then still came back and qualified by about forty points. Nicole had a great event too and she gained some valuable experience that will help her next year," Marschner added.
Casillas took seventh on the platform event with a total score of 519.20. Nicole Ford was 25th (209.70).
"Jake finished off a fantastic meet by qualifying for NCAA's on tower so he has a full schedule of events in two weeks. Daniel had a strong performance and finaled in his only event and he will be a strong tower diver for us for the next three years."
On the men's platform, Jacob Crayne was 11th tallying 635.10 points, Daniel Theriault was 17th (573.95).
Stina Colleou and Genevieve Robertson will join Casillas at the women's NCAA Championships which will be held March 16-19 at the McAuley Aquatic Center in Atlanta, Ga.
Crayne and Purss will be joined by Bence Kiraly at the men's NCAA Championships which will be held March 23-26 at the Georgia Tech Aquatic Center in Atlanta, Ga.
