Utah Golf Places Fifth at PING Cougar Classic

Final Results PROVO, Utah - The Utah men's golf team finished in fifth place at the PING Cougar Classic on Tuesday after carding a final round 5-over par (293). Utah ended the two-day event with a score of 1-over par (277-295-293=865) at the Riverside Country Club in Provo, Utah.
Senior Brandon Kida recorded the best finish of his career, finishing in a tie for third-place after shooting 4-under par (68) in the final round. Kida, who now has three career top-five finishes, ended the tournament with a score of 9-under par (67-72-68=207).
Finishing in a tie for 28th-place, senior Jonathon Thomas and junior Gentry Hicks recorded two-day scores of 3-over par (219). Thomas (67-74-78=219) carded a final round 6-over par (78), while Hicks (71-75-73=219) shot 1-over par (73) in the final round on Tuesday.
Senior Steven Croft recorded a final round 2-over par (74) to finish in a tie for 32nd-place with a score of 4-over par (72-74-74=220). Rounding out Utah's team total, senior Brent Pollock placed 59th with a score of 23-over par (74-86-79=239).
BYU won the team title after shooting a final round 13-under par (275) to give them a two-day score of 35-under par (274-280-275=829). Wyoming (-9) finished in second place, Washington State (-6) followed in third place, while Colorado State (-1) finished ahead of the Utes in fourth place.
Dixie State (+2), Pacific (+2), Utah State (+2), Southern Utah (+15), and Westminster (+44) rounded out the team standings.
Competing as an individual, senior Jose Pelayo finished in a tie for 19th-place after carding a final round 1-over par (73). Pelayo finished the event with a score of even par (72-71-73=216). Also competing as an individual, junior Justin Mortensen carded 8-over par (80) in the final round to finish the event in 52nd-place with a score of 14-over par (74-76-80=230).
Utah is set to host the Pac-12 Men's Golf Championships on April 29-May 1. The three-day conference tournament will be held at the Salt Lake Country Club in Salt Lake City.
