SALT LAKE CITY – Men's golfer Kyler Dunkle is transferring to the University of Utah from Colorado State, Utah head men's golf coach
Garrett Clegg announced today.
"Kyler is a great player and a fantastic addition to our program," said Clegg. "I fully expect him to come in and make an immediate impact. He will add a ton of experience to a team that brings back just four returners from last year's team and just a few of them having played a number of varsity rounds. Kyler has a bright future ahead of him and it will be fun to see his game develop in the coming years. I am extremely excited that he has decided to sign with the U."
As a redshirt freshman with the Rams this past season, Dunkle posted a 73.3 strokes-per-round average in 12 events played. He carded a season-best 4-under par (212) to finish in a tie for 10th place at the National Invitational Tournament.
Dunkle's best finish of the season was a tie for fourth place at the Ram Masters Invitational, where he carded a three-round score of even par (210). He fired his best round of the season in that same tournament, posting a 7-under par (63) through his first 18 holes of the event.
Dunkle rounded out the 2015-16 campaign finishing in a tie for 33rd place at the Mountain West Conference Championship Tournament, posting a three-round score of 5-over par (70-77-74=221). He tallied five top-10 finishes on the season, which included placing among the top-five in three of those tournaments.
A native of Larkspur, Colo., Dunkle was a four-year letterwinner at Douglas County High School in Castle Rock, Colo., from 2010-14. During his prep career, Dunkle captured first-team all-Continental League honors in each of his four seasons and was named his squad's MVP as both a junior and senior. Dunkle was a medalist in the Colorado 5A Championship Tournament as a junior and went on to earn all-state accolades that season.
He is the son of Jason and Cindy Dunkle and he has one sister, Madison.
