Ute punter set school single-game record in debut
SAN FRANCISCO—Utah's sophomore punter Mitch Wishnowsky was named the Pac-12 Special Teams Player of the Week in his Ute debut against SUU. Wishnowsky set the school single-game record for average yards per punt with a 55.5-average on six punts against the Thunderbirds. His average led the nation in the first week of play. Utah also leads the nation in net punting average (46.83).
Â
Wishnowsky, from Gosnells, Western Australia, broke the record previously held by fellow Aussie and two-time Ray Guy Award and consensus All-American Tom Hackett.
Â
Wishnowsky had five punts of 50 yards or more against SUU—the second-most 50-yard punts in a game in school history. His long was 66 yards. His first NCAA punt sailed 51 yards and was downed on the SUU 10-yard line. He downed two punts inside the 20-yard line against the Thunderbirds.
