SALT LAKE CITY - The University of Utah baseball team will host 'An Evening with Steve Garvey' at the Sheraton Salt Lake City Hotel on Tuesday, Feb. 6, 2017.
Garvey spent 19 seasons in the major leagues, his first 14 with the Los Angeles Dodgers (1969-82) before finishing his career with the San Diego Padres (1983-87). The 1974 National League MVP, Garvey was a 10-time all-star and won four Gold Glove awards (1974-77). He won a World Series with the Dodgers in 1981 and was named the National League Championship Series MVP twice (1978, 1984). In the 1984 NLCS, Garvey hit what is arguably considered the most memorable home run in Padres franchise history, a walk off home run in the ninth inning against the Cubs in game four to push the series to a decisive game five.
Garvey has also been presented with the Roberto Clemente Award (1981) and the Lou Gehrig Award (1984).
Garvey holds the National League record for consecutive games played (1,207) which is the fourth-longest in major league history. He was consistently among the National League leaders in hits in a season, leading the league in hits in 1978 (202) and 1980 (200). Garvey had 200 hits six times in his career.
The evening will feature a reception at 6:00 p.m. with dinner beginning at 7:00 p.m., followed by an auction. Tickets for the event are $100 per person or $1,000 per table of 10.
