Utah (9-3) took a 3-0 lead in the first inning and increased its lead with two runs in the fourth en-route to the win. The Aggies lone run came off a solo homer in the seventh.
Riley Ottesen threw seven innings, allowing one run on six hits with five strikeouts and one walk. He raises his record to 3-0 on the year. Jacob Rebar threw the final two innings with one walk and one strikeout.
Kyle Hoffman went 2-for-3 to lead Utah at the plate while Dallas Carroll drove in two runs on the day.
New Mexico State threatened in the first with two hits but left both runners on base. The Utes were able to break through in the bottom of the inning. DaShawn Keirsey, Jr. and Oliver Dunn started the day with back-to-back hits. A walk loaded the bases for Hunter Simmons and Josh Rose drove in the first run of the day on a sacrifice fly to center. Dunn scored on a wild pitch while another run scored on an error on a ground ball, giving Utah a 3-0 advantage right off the bat.
In the fourth, Zack Moeller walked to lead off the inning and Kyle Hoffman singled to center. After a fly out and strikeout, Carroll hit a double to left field which easily scored Moeller and Hoffman beat the throw to the plate to give Utah a 5-0 lead.
NMSU left two on in the fifth and sixth innings before a solo home run to lead off the seventh. The Utes had several good defensive plays on the day to preserve the win.
