RIVERSDE, Calif. – The Utah track and field team continues outdoor competition at the UC Riverside Invitational for the three-day event in Riverside, Calif. Competition will be held March 23-25 at the UC Riverside Track and Field Complex.

"This is our first time ever going to this meet at Riverside. It looked like it was a great meet last year looking at the results and there are a lot of solid teams. We are looking forward to getting there and going somewhere new," head coach Kyle Kepler said.

Along with Utah, teams competing at the invitational include Azusa Pacific, Cal State Fullerton, Long Beach State, North Dakota State, Southern Utah, UC Irvine, UC Riverside, Utah Valley and Wisconsin.

Competition will begin Thursday with the heptathlon events. Junior Madison Lanford, sophomore Lauren McCluskey, and freshman Piper Wehrli will kick off the UC Riverside Invitational for Utah on Thursday at 12 p.m. PT.

"We are taking an even bigger crew this time. Some of the distance and middle distance kids are going to open their seasons that didn't last week and we will get everybody some competition that we can get in the meet," Kepler said. "For some, it is their second meet so hopefully we will see improvements. For those kids opening, they will get their feet wet and harden the shell, a term we like to use, and hopefully get back into race mode both physically and mentally."

The multi events group will conclude action on Friday, while the remaining group of Utes will compete on Saturday.
