RIVERSIDE, Calif. – Sophomore Lauren McCluskey, junior Madison Lanford, and freshman Piper Wehrli finished action in the first heptathlon of the outdoor season on Friday afternoon at the UC Riverside Invitational.
"I thought our multi events group actually looked a little bit better today than they did yesterday," head coach Kyle Kepler said. "They competed hard all the way through, event by event, especially considering it was the first heptathlon of the year. They will certainly improve, but nonetheless, they gave great efforts today."
To round out heptathlon events on the second day of competition, the three Utes competed in the javelin, long jump, and 800-meter run.
McCluskey finished the first outdoor heptathlon of the season with 4184 points, to finish in a tie for 12th place. McCluskey finished fourth overall in the javelin (109'10.25"), fifth in the 800-meter run (2:31.89), and 19th in the long jump (14'7").
