SALT LAKE CITY – The University of Utah football team completed its first day of on-field workouts during practice Thursday afternoon at Eccles Practice Fields.

UtahUtes.com will provide a behind-the-scenes look during the Utes' spring practice.

The 14th-annual Red-White spring game is scheduled for Saturday, Apr. 15.

From Coach Kyle Whittingham

On new offensive coordinator working with offense
"A lot of good stuff. Some give-and-take, but more good than bad. That's a credit to our players and our offensive coaches for how smoothly things went with being being Day One. There were very few mistakes, but some sloppiness. We have a lot to clean up, but when you look at it in its entirety and where we're at, I thought it was a pretty good start."

On offense
"The bottom line is scoring points; that's the most important thing for an offense – taking care of the ball and scoring points. It doesn't matter how you get it in the end zone. Troy Taylor (offensive coordinator) has an exceptional track record with throwing the football, you combine that with the way we've run the football in the past, it should be a pretty good combination."

On Caleb Repp playing defensive end
"He played there in high school so it's not completely foreign to him. He's up to about 245 pounds and he wants to play there. That's another thing, his heart is set on playing on the defensive side and I think he has a future. He's only a sophomore so he has a lot of time. He was very willing to make the move. He came to us and wanted to give it a shot and we said sure."

On losing a lot of guys to graduation and the NFL
"We lost a lot of guys, but that's college football. We've recruited really well the past few years so it's time for those guys to step up into the system and show what they can do. There's a couple linemen who will be in the mix as well as a bunch of secondary guys."

On new feel of team
"With the new scheme and a bunch of new players from this recruiting class we're really excited. A big part will be how the new guys transition when they get out of secondary."

Chase Hansen, DB

"We have a lot of guys who are really excited. It seems like with every team you lose guys. We lost a lot of good guys, but we gain a lot of good guys. The secondary is going to be fun. Troy Taylor's offense is fast and I feel like we need that. It's one of those offenses where you got to be real quick, in shape and ready for everything."

Cooper Bateman, QB

"Troy (Williams) and Tyler (Huntley) have already established themselves here and everyone knows what they have with them so I need to show what I have. I'm the No. 3 quarterback right now and I understand that. I think I performed alright today – It's a new team, new system, new everything – I'm getting used to it. Like I said, I'm the third quarterback so I watched Troy and Tyler for most of the day. I need to earn the respect of my teammates and coaches to get more reps."
